Train staff to use technology, on an individual and school wide basis
For most of my teaching career, I have been 'that tech guy' whom most people go to when they have a problem or a question. Here are some examples of the more formal trainings I have given to the staff at my school.
Google Calendar - I created several Google Calendars for scheduling the computer lab, science lab, and several other events at our school. I then trained the staff on how to use and maintain these calendars.
STAR Reading and Math - In conjunction with a trainer from Renaissance Learning via phone, I helped to train the staff on using these diagnostic assessments.
SWIVL - During an inservice on state testing, I demonstrated how to use the SWIVL unit for recording our classroom activities prior to giving the performance task for the Smarter Balanced test.
Tech Tuesdays - For one year, I taught a short lesson once a week, on Tuesday mornings. The topic usually involved mobile apps, which were chosen based on staff surveys. I was able to give a short introduction, and allow for some hands on time.
Excel Spreadsheet - For several years, in between using hard copy report cards, and then a web-based Student Information System, I created a digital report card using Excel. I trained the staff on how to navigate between cells, enter information, share, and save report cards.
